As a principle, social justice requires the nursing profession to question the system of care, models of delivery, and the balance of resources. There is growing concern that a broad range of social, economic, and environmental factors shape individuals’ opportunities and barriers to engage in healthy behaviors.
The first of eight essential nurse leader competencies for 2020, established by the Canadian Nurses Association , is a global perspective or mindset regarding healthcare and professional nursing issues. Perhaps these essential competencies should be considered as an exemplar to other economically advantaged countries.
